| Office: | Minnesota Supreme Court associate justice seat 4 |
Other candidates in this race: |
| Incumbent: | No | |
| City of residence: | Minnetonka | |
| Age: | 61 | |
| Background: | 28 years trial judge handling cases Supreme Court reviews: Murder 1, complex civil, malpractice, family, juvenile, probate, mental health. 10 years trial attorney: criminal prosecutor, public/private defender, civil solo, pro bono, corporate, government counsel. | |
| Endorsements: | Minnesota Women Lawyers; Dakota County Sheriff Don Gudmundson; Paul Bierhaus, police investigator. | |
| Most important issue: | Although the Supreme Court's primary job is reviewing decisions of 300-plus trial judges, including direct appeals of Murder 1 convictions, only one current justice has trial court experience (of 4 months). None have tried a Murder 1 case. My election would remedy that lack of perspective and practical knowledge. My diverse family (including African, Indian, Asian, Hispanic, European and Jewish heritage) as well as exposure to 25 percent non-white litigants, would provide much needed balance and understanding. By clear, consistent opinions, litigation would be reduced (saving the public and litigants money) and increasing the predictibility of legal outcomes. | |
