| Background: | I have 2 teenage children and have been substitute teaching k-12 in all subjects for 6 years. I see many of our problems on a daily basis. I am close to the system, but not entrenched in it. I see things from a different perspective. | |

| Most important issue: | We need to teach our children the fundamentals; reading, writing and arithmetic. There are too many children who cannot read or do math at a decent level. We need to properly prepare our students for the future, by challenging, drilling and disciplining. We need to get back to teaching memorization and phonics. In social studies they need to learn about American heritage. We need to teach kids how to think, not what to think. If a child can not pass the level they are at they need to held back until that section is mastered. |
